Emotional first aid kit
As part of New Year, New You, Year 3 had a talk from Julie our school counsellor. She explained to us that when we have hurt ourselves on the outside we need to use a first aid kit. We have to look after ourselves and use an emotional first aid kit to make us feel better. Julie talked to us about different emotions we can have.
Here are some of the things in our emotional first aid kits:
Teddy- remember to get a hug
Tennis ball- do some exercise that you enjoy
Bed- it is important to get enough sleep
Book- spend some time doing a hobby
Sieve- make something or draw. Be creative and use your imagination.
Chocolate-it’s ok to treat yourself
Phone- it is good to talk to someone we feel safe with. If we don’t talk to someone our problem or worry can get bigger.
We also practiced the take 5 exercise. We had to close our eyes and think about a time when you were happy. We did some breathing exercises.
