Malala's Magic Pencil
Today in assembly, we heard the story of Malala and how she campaigned for girls to be allowed to go to school in Pakistan. The work that Malala was doing for girls' rights was recognised, and highlighted by many media organisations, across the world. Malala was shot because of this. She spent a long time recovering in hospital, but that didn't stop her from continuing her campaign.
She had an opportunity to address the leaders of the United Nations. In her speech she said,
"One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world."
Malala wrote letters and blogs to try to improve life in her community. We thought about things we could do to make our community a better place to live. The children made the following suggestions for how we could make our society better:
- Tidy our bedrooms
- Talk to someone who is lonely
- Make sure we recycle our rubbish
- Say kind things to one another
- Give someone a hug
- Reduce the amount of plastic we use
- Keep our beaches clean and litter free
- Help an elderly person with their shopping
- Invite someone to join in our game
- Smile at people
- Don't litter
- Respect everyone even if they are different from us
Imagine what a lovely place our community would be if each of us tried to do these things :)
