Our World War 2 Day!
Year 4 spent the day, dressed as EVACUEES, at the War Memorial Museum in Belfast. We found out about ship building in the docks, aeroplane construction in Shorts and the reasons these were targets during WW2. We talked about the people who helped at home during the war; the mobile canteen, fire fighters, nurses, air raid wardens and the home guard. We listened to an air raid siren during the Belfast Blitz and heard bombs falling as people would have found safety in shelters or hid under their tables at home. We hunted through the museum and it's artefacts to find answers to a quiz and enjoyed dressing up in the uniforms of nurses, pilots and wardens from WW2. We also celebrated Victory in Europe with our own street party! We have really enjoyed listening to all the stories which have come from home about relatives who had a connection with WW2, thanks for getting involved with our topic!
