Right of the Month - September
Article 42
"Governments must actively work to make sure children and adults know about the Convention."
During the month of September, the Rights Respecting School Steering Group will be working hard to help everyone in our school community learn more about the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Children under the age of 18 are 'Rights Holders'. It is important that they learn about their rights to ensure they respect their own rights and the rights of other children.
By learning about their rights, pupils can also campaign to ensure the government and organisations they are involved in, carry out their responsibility to uphold them.
Duty bearers are the adults who are responsible for ensuring children receive their rights. This includes parents and care-givers and the government and those who are employed by the government (teachers, police, healthcare workers etc.). All adults associated with our school are duty bearers. It is important that adults learn about the convention so as they can be sure that the children are receiving all the rights stated.
