The Water Bus.

22nd Jan 2018

Today P5 spent an hour on the water bus.  We asked the children to give some thoughts about what it was like.

  • Tony said he now knows that our water gets cleaned twice before it gets to our tap.
  • Jack said that he found out that sand is used to clean the mud out of the water.
  • Ellie thought it was very interesting and she liked finding out about all the things we should never put down our toilets.  The worst are baby wipes and cotton buds.
  • Shaw liked learning about the girl in Africa who had to walk eight miles every day to collect one bucket of water.  It was dirty water too.
  • Reece realised that the only three things we should put down our toilets are pee, poo and toilet paper.
  • Jessie learned that we should use showers rather than baths as a bath uses 20 buckets of water whereas a shower only uses 7.
  • Dara remembered that machines are working in Northern Ireland 24 hours a day 365 days a year, to clean our water.
  • Leah loved finding out that the water we are using now has been around since the dinosaur's day! They have trampled over it and then it went into the water cycle and we are using it still.  There is no new water.
  • Bea loved seeing the water cycle and she said it was cool to find out how it all works.
  • Jordan said he now knows that you should drink 6-8 cups of water every day in order to keep our bodies working properly.

An awful fact we heard was that a turtle was found with a straw up its nose!

We must look after our oceans and use water responsibly.

Thank you to the wonderful water bus.
