The Wheelie Big Challenge
The Y7 members of the Eco team represented us at Mossley Mill to take part in 'The Wheelie Big Challenge'. This is a competition run by Antrim and Newtownabbey Council to reduce the amount of waste in the community, which we had recently entered. We were 1 of 5 schools who were asked to attend the final. The team had collected and displayed their evidence and were able to explain to the judges the impact we have made at school through our initiatives.
We were so impressed with our children and those from the other schools. It was great to share ideas.
The children learned about animals who are natural waste disposers and the impact they have on our environment, e.g. cockroaches, geckos and African Eagles.
When the results were revealed we were delighted to find out we were placed 2nd. We got a certificate and won a cash prize which will go towards our topics next year. We met the mayor and he was so impressed with our illustrations on our food caddies that he would like to show them to the council!!
