Translink Safety Bus visit.
Today the P5 children spent time on the Translink Safety Bus.
They met Kevin and Susan who were very interesting, funny and informative.
We heard about what best behaviour on buses looks like and were told that secondary school children can be poorly behaved, on buses. The children watched a video about the dangers that are present at bus stops. We saw a re-enactment of how children were pushing and shoving at the bus stop and one of them ended up being shoved into the road and was hit by the bus. We then had a discussion about how we all should wait at a bus stop.
We also were told about choosing a seat and staying on it and not to change and walk around the bus when it is moving, as this is dangerous.
The children discussed how the bell should be rung only once when we want off the bus as ringing it more than this, causes distraction for the driver.
Lastly, we were told about the cost of buses and how they must be looked after because they are very expensive. Here we heard that all buses have CCTV on board and so people who are misbehaving or damaging a bus can be identified and prosecuted.
We heard a lot of interesting information and the children all took part with enthusiasm. Kevin and Susan remarked on how well behaved and interested they all were.
This was a very worthwhile activity.
