Welcome to Year 1
Learning is fun in Year 1! It is a very busy year as we develop our skills in Literacy and Numeracy and learn to work and play together.
Year 1 Topics:
Somewhere Over the Rainbow - What a colourful world we live in! Let’s take a look at colour mixing, rainbows, fruit and vegetables and the stories of Little Riding Hood, Elmer and Noah’s Ark (September/October).
Festival of Fall - Join the Owl Babies as they explore seasonal change (October/November).
Christmas - Year 1 get into the festive spirit with glitter and tinsel galore! (December)
Walking in a Winter Wonderland - Jet off to the Polar Lands and pack your suitcase for the ski slopes. This is an adventure not to be missed! (January/February)
We\'re Going on a Bear Hunt - Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for Goldilocks and the three bears during this topic! (March/April)
In the Garden - Join us as we explore the wonderful world of minibeasts (May/June).
Trips: We explore the local environment as part of our Shared Education programme with our friends at St. James\' Primary School. In the Summer Term we have a great trip to Hazelbank Sensory Garden and the King\'s Coronation Garden.
Visitors: Sally the Vet, Monkstown Dentist, Mrs Hilditch the snowboarder and Mr Hasson the gardener.
Highlights of Year 1:
Making fruit salad, Autumn Walk, Hedgehog Buns, Nativity Show, Bear Hunt and Picnic, Sports Day, Shared Education Celebration at the V36 Park

Please only send one healthy item for break.
Try to stand in the same place at pick up times to help your child to see you quickly.
On sunny days, please apply sun cream at home and send your child to school with a sunhat.
